DARA HOSTA MEMORIAL GARDEN DEDICATED

The Dara Hosta Memorial Garden was dedicated on the evening of September 30, 2005 in front of a capacity crowd at the Charles A. Harding Memorial Stadium prior to the Olmsted Falls High School football game against Avon Lake.  The garden was a true labor of love that will be enjoyed by all who visit.  The landscape design, donated by Yard Smart, includes a garden area surrounded by intricate brick work and benches.  The garden's focal point is a large rock featuring a plaque in honor of Dara.  Yard Smart also donated all of the labor to create the beautiful new space.  It is the hope of the Hosta Family that when people sit in this special place, they will know and remember a beautiful young lady who lived and appreciated life to its fullest.

Dara was a freshman at Olmsted Falls High School whose passion for life and level of involvement in many school and community activities inspired all who knew her. She loved school and all the extracurricular activities, and was blessed with many talents: athletic, academic and musical. But Dara's greatest gift was her capacity to share her kindness, laughter, friendship, and love of life with all those around her. Dara passed away tragically at the end of her freshman year when she collapsed on May 26, 2000, after winning a 400-yard race in gym class.

Members of the Hosta family, including Dara's parents, Bruce and Fonda Hosta, were in attendance for the special dedication event, along with Bob and Laura Smart of Yard Smart.  The moving ceremony concluded with a special recording of Dara Hosta singing the national anthem.
