OLMSTED FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT AWARDS ADDITIONAL CONTRACTS FOR NEW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

At a Special Meeting of the Olmsted Falls Board of Education held Monday, June 30th at the Board of Education office, the Board of Education voted unanimously to accept bids for the next group of contracts related to the construction of a new intermediate school. Contracts awarded at this morning’s meeting include general trades, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire protection, kitchen equipment and brick materials as follows:

General Trades Package -  Blaze Building Corp.
Plumbing Package - Miller Plumbing & Heating
Electrical Package - RJ Martin Electrical
HVAC Package - Price & James Heating & Refrigeration Co.
Fire Protection Package - S.A. Comunale
Kitchen Equipment Package - Trimark SS Kemp
Brick Pre-Purchase Package - M.H. Koppes Clay Products Co.

The qualifications, references and bid proposals from the above companies were reviewed in detail by Regency Construction Services, Inc., the construction management company for the new intermediate school project. After review of all bid proposals, the companies listed above were determined to be the lowest, responsible bidders for the respective contracts. Boards of Education are required by Ohio law to award contracts to the lowest, responsible bidder.

“We appreciate the due diligence and thoroughness exhibited by our team at Regency Construction, as well as our construction attorney David Riley and the architects at Architectural Vision Group, in making their recommendations regarding this latest round of contract awards,” said Olmsted Falls Board President James Weisbarth. “It is of critical importance to the Board that we ensure taxpayer dollars generated from the Bond Issue are spent in the most efficient and effective way possible.”

Overall, the District received a total of four bids for the General Trades Package, five bids for the Plumbing Package, three bids for the Electrical Package, eight bids for the HVAC Package, six bids for the Fire Protection Package, two bids for the Kitchen Equipment Package, and one bid for the Brick Pre-Purchase package. In all cases, the lowest bidder for each contract was determined to be responsible and qualified to do the work required by each respective contract.

“After extensive research and background checking, we were able to provide the Olmsted Falls Board of Education with firm recommendations for the six companies awarded these latest contracts,” said Jeff Fullerman of Regency Construction Services. “We are confident that these companies will provide quality work at a cost that meets our project budget.”

The total cost of the seven accepted bids awarded this week came in slightly under original cost projections for these six areas combined. The accepted base bid for the general trades package from Blaze Building Corp., located in Berea, was $6,744,000. The accepted base bid for the plumbing package from Miller Plumbing & Heating, located in Chagrin Falls, was $908,000. The accepted base bid for the electrical package from RJ Martin Electrical, located in Bedford Heights, was $1,769,000. The accepted base bid for the HVAC Package from Price & James Heating & Refrigeration Co., located in Berea, was $1,699,500. The accepted base bid for the fire protection package from S.A. Comunale, located in Barberton, was $236,552. The accepted base bid for the kitchen equipment package from Trimark SS Kemp, located in Cleveland, was $283,531. The accepted base bid for the brick pre-purchase contract from M.H. Koppes Clay Products Co., located in Seville, was $89,550.

The new intermediate school was made possible by the successful passage of a 2 Mill Bond Issue by residents in May 2007. The new building will address pressing space and overcrowding issues currently being experienced by the District, especially at the Pre-K to 5th grade levels. It is anticipated the new intermediate school will be completed by Fall 2009. Early site work on the new building began in March. The next phase of construction will begin in early July.
