Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is a high school leadership group that
spreads the message of healthy choices throughout the district.
The National Red Ribbon Celebration is a time set aside annually from October 23-31 to increase awareness about the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and to promote safe and drug free environments for everyone. The celebration serves as a tool for involving all aspects of the community in the process of prevention.
The Red Ribbon Celebration originated to honor the work and memory of a Drug Enforcement Agent who was murdered by drug traffickers in 1985. The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to healthy drug-free lifestyles.
Red Ribbon Week is October 26-30
OFHS school is celebrating Red Ribbon Week by presenting our third annual SPIRIT DAYS CELEBRATING LIFE DRUG FREE. We are continuing the tradition this year of the chain of life, which can be seen in the cafeteria. Please stop by the pit during lunches to become part of this chain against drugs. “Don’t Break the Chain of Life” and stay strong together against the use of drugs and alcohol.

Tuesday, October 27:During Red Ribbon week, take time to think about what your anti-drug is… Are you an athlete, in the band or choir, an artist, or a dancer? Any of these can be an anti-drug. SHOW YOUR SPIRIT TUESDAY BY PUTTING A CAP ON DRUGS, AND WEARING YOUR FAVORITE HAT TO SCHOOL.

Thursday October 29: The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to healthy drug free lifestyles. SHOW YOUR SPIRIT BY WEARING RED ON THURSDAY.
Friday, October 30: Alcohol is the most widely used and abused drug among youth; it is a factor in the three leading causes of death among 15-24 year olds; accidents, homicides, and suicides. SADD would like to remind you to make wise and life saving decisions everyday of the year, not just during Red Ribbon Week. FRIDAY IS HALLOWEEN, SO LET'S SCARE AWAY DRUGS AND DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN. NO FACE MASKS ALLOWED, AND DRESS CODE APPROPRIATE PLEASE!
During Red Ribbon Week, SADD leaders will also visit the middle school, Fitch Intermediate School and Falls Lenox on October 28, 2009 with a drug free message.
SADD also sponsors a safe driving program at the high school, offering safe driving message to all students through messages, posters, seat-belt checks, and a birthday card to all tudents turning 16 to remind them of the responsibilities and risks of driving.
