EBOLA UPDATE FROM OLMSTED FALLS SCHOOLS

[10/16/14 Email to Parents from Dr. Jim Lloyd]

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The health and safety of our students and staff is always a top priority. I am emailing you this afternoon to let you know that the Olmsted Falls School District has been monitoring, and will continue to closely monitor, updated information about Ebola from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  We have just concluded a conference call update for school officials organized by the Office of the Governor, Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Department of Education.

The Olmsted Falls School District also has a strong working relationship with the Cuyahoga County Health Department, and has worked closely with Cuyahoga County concerning other important health issues pertinent to our schools. We will continue to remain vigilant about the Ebola issue by closely following information provided by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.  We will institute recommendations as necessary, and will continue to provide you with updates as they become available.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health is emphasizing the importance of practicing careful hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap or using hand sanitizers.  As is always the case, it is important that parents keep students home from school when they are sick.  Please note that hand sanitizers are always available for student and staff use throughout all district buildings.  Surfaces in our district (desks, counters, chairs, computer labs etc.) are wiped down with a disinfectant solution on a regular basis.

For those interested in additional information resources, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health has posted a list of Questions & Answers About Ebola on their website, along with other additional information and resources.  To access this section of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health website, please click HERE.   Anyone with specific questions is encouraged to call the Cuyahoga County Board of Health at 216-201-2001.

The Ohio Department of Health has also compiled information on their website which can be accessed by clicking HERE.  Additionally, the ODH has activated a 24-hour-a-day call center to answer Ohioans’ questions about Ebola and the recent events in Ohio in an effort to ensure Ohioans get accurate, timely information. The number for Ohioans to call is 1-866-800-1404.

Again, we will continue to monitor and maintain communications with local health agencies currently providing guidance for all Ohio residents.  We will also continue an ongoing dialogue with you as we receive additional information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Lloyd

Superintendent
