Governor Releases Reopening Guidelines for Schools: Next Steps for OFCS (7/2/2020 8:00 PM)

Dear Bulldog Families:

We remain committed to keeping our school families informed with the latest information as we plan for the reopening of our schools this fall. Earlier this afternoon Governor DeWine, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Health, officially released the guidelines and safety protocols for schools to follow as they work toward re-opening this fall.

The COVID-19 Health and Prevention Guidance for Ohio K-12 Schools document can be viewed now by clicking HERE, and can also be accessed at anytime on the State’s official website at www.coronavirus.ohio.gov within the Responsible Restart Ohio section, under Sector Specific Operating Requirements. Additionally, school district administrators have also been provided with a Reset and Restart Education: Planning Guide for Ohio Schools and Districts which you can access by clicking HERE.

The health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Having these guidelines now available is an important step in our district’s ability to begin to realistically assess and work to finalize reopening plans in the most productive and tangible way.  We have appreciated your patience.  Next steps for Olmsted Falls City Schools include:

  • Careful review of these newly released guidelines and assessment of the impact on preliminary scenarios we have been exploring.

  • Electronic survey of OFCS Families for feedback on possible scenarios. (This important survey link will be emailed to all Bulldog families and promoted via the district’s social media channels by the end of next week.)

  • Finalize reopening committees made up of district administrators, staff and parents, and establish meeting dates, to review survey data and determine the most optimal plan for reopening.

Our plan includes a district core committee, along with sub-committees focused on specific grade bands as well as operational logistics.  We will be working under the direction of state and local health officials to ensure we follow proper protocols in our planning.

Finally, as a reminder, we do anticipate pushing back the first day of school for students to AFTER the Labor Day holiday.  We should have a final decision on that and the exact start date confirmed shortly. A direct email will be sent to all school families regarding the status of the start date for students.

We will continue to provide email updates throughout the summer regarding logistics relating to the return to school in the fall.

Stay safe and be well Bulldogs. Enjoy the Fourth of July holiday!

Sincerely,

Jim
