End of Year Message for OFCS Families from Superintendent Dr. Jim Lloyd (6/11/21 3:15 PM)

Dear Bulldog Families,

With your support and help we did it! On behalf of the Board of Education, the administration, the faculty and staff, I would like to thank you for hanging in there with us throughout the 2020-2021 school year. In many ways this school year seemed like two school years wrapped into one. The first part of the year forced us into a school delivery model that we were very unfamiliar with and it challenged us all. The second part slowly but surely transitioned into a more normal school environment that we all truly missed. The year ended with an in-person graduation, visitations to buildings, field days and celebrations. It felt great!

Despite the challenges that were presented, I still believe that this year was a success. The greatest success was our ability to continually adjust and adapt in ways to support student learning. We learned some valuable lessons that will make us better, including how we use technology, a focus on mental health and wellness, and by being creative and collaborative, meaningful learning can still happen in a nontraditional setting. There’s a lot we can incorporate into our “normal” school years in the future.

As we head into summer, we are offering several opportunities for students to catch up or enhance their learning through several summer school classes and enrichment programs.  Please watch for additional details on these classes and programs to be emailed next week.  With these opportunities, our goal is for students to return to the classroom more confident and better prepared to take on the next school year. In addition, our plan is to use Federal COVID relief funds to provide more opportunities for support during the 2021-2022 school year.

Thank you for all that you do for our students and schools. Our students’ success would not be possible without the support of our teachers, staff, families, and community. We look forward to welcoming students back in the fall to an atmosphere that is showing signs of appearing like a typical school year. In the meantime, I wish each and every one of you a happy, healthy, and safe summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Lloyd, Superintendent
